A 30-year-old Halifax man was injured and transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred at 4:34 p.m. Tuesday on Huell Matthews Highway, one-tenth of a mile north of Cluster Springs Road.
According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper J. A. Wilmoth, Waverly Pannell Jr. was attempting to move into the left lane in his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt when he had to swerve to avoid a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by 40-year-old Matthew Richard III of South Boston.
After swerving, the Cobalt entered the median strip where it struck a highway sign.
Richard faces a charge of failure to yield.
Wilmoth estimated damage to the Chevrolet at $3,000, and the Ford had no damage.
