It’s almost time to Rock n’ Read at the fourth annual fundraiser for the early literacy program to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the South Boston Public Library. Tickets are $10 each.
In past years, bookshelves and rocking chairs have been sold to raise funds for the children’s programs, and this year, local artists are tackling painting guitars.
With the purchase of a ticket, participants will enjoy a fun evening featuring wine donated by Hunting Creek Vineyards and nibbling on heavy hor d’oeurves provided by Southern Plenty, all while browsing an array of guitars and ukuleles painted by local artists.
Participants can bid on the instruments during a silent auction.
Winners will be announced at the close of the fundraiser.
Several artists have donated items as door prizes.
Tickets will be available at both library branches starting Nov. 15. Tickets also may be purchased at the door. All proceeds go towards the early literacy program.
Last year the early literacy program reached more than 700 children a month.
“We provide outreach program services to the Head Start Community, Early Learning Centers, Tots Childcare Early Learning Center as well as the Dan Baptist WEE School and First Baptist Weekday School. Our mission is to inspire a love of reading while giving kids the tools they need to learn to read,” said Sue Brooks, early literacy specialist.
“Mark your calendars to attend this wonderful event raising funds to help raise readers,” she added.
