A 53-year-old Matthews, North Carolina, man was injured and transported to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital after a single-vehicle wreck on Philpott Road, just west of Sandy Beach Road on Monday afternoon.
State Trooper D. N. Clark reported the wreck occurred at 1:20 p.m. as Emerson Myvett was traveling westbound near 6050 Philpott Road.
The 53-year-old was driving a 2006 Chevrolet HHR when he ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and ran off the right side of the road before striking an embankment and overturning.
Crews from Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department extricated Myvett from the vehicle, before rescue crews transported him to the hospital with injuries sustained in the wreck, according to Clark.
Clark charged Myvett with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control.
The trooper declared the HHR a total loss.
