Virginia Cooperative Extension welcomes an inaugural Open Beef Show to this year’s Halifax County Fair. The Open Beef Show will feature classes ranging from cow/calf pair, heifer calves, yearling calves, steers, bull calves, yearling bulls to 2-year-old bulls.
During the week of the fair, the animals will be part of the livestock barn and the Farm Animal Field Day for elementary school students.
The Open Beef Show will officially begin at noon the Saturday of the fair – Oct. 5.
Youth ages 5-19 and adults (ages 20+) are invited to show off their livestock while providing a learning experience to attendees. Winners in classes will receive a trophy.
This event is also an extra opportunity and experience for Halifax County Junior Livestock Show participants. Entry fees per animal will be $10, with the Halifax County Fair organization matching funds raised towards a new scholarship fund for local youth in the community.
The Open Beef Show booklet and entry forms are available on the Halifax County Fair website, www.HalifaxCountyFair.com.
