The 2021 personal property taxes and second installment of 2021 real estate taxes are due by Dec. 6.

Residents are asked to mail payments early to ensure it will be postmarked on or before Dec. 6 to avoid a penalty. If a person desires a receipt, they should enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with the payment.

Taxpayers may use major credit/debit cards to make payments online at

Residents should enter bill numbers, category of tax and telephone number when using online payment. Also, there will be a fee for any payments made using credit/debit cards. Online payments should also be recorded as of Dec. 6.

Payments via check or money order can be mailed to the Treasurer at P.O. Box 825, Halifax, VA 24558 or they may be placed in the treasurer’s drop box located at the Mary Bethune Office Complex, 1030 Cowford Road Halifax, VA 24558.

Taxpayers are asked to not put cash in the drop box.

The office is open to the public from 8:30 to 5 p.m. for anyone who wants to pay in person.

Also, the 2022 dog tags are now on sale. Residents need to provide current rabies vaccination certificate. The fee per dog tag is $10. Kennel tags are $50 for up to 20 dogs.
