The Healthy Harvest Community Garden hosted an open house Saturday to celebrate its new location. The garden recently moved to 445 South Main St. in Halifax next to Abbotts Farm Suppliers and the Roller Mill building. The event featured speakers from the town, sponsor agencies and activities like a raffle, scavenger hunt, corn hole games, popcorn – and of course, lots of fresh vegetables. This year’s garden is going strong. The organization has harvested almost 500 pounds of veggies and distributed around the area to those in need of healthy food choices. While planted a little later than usual, organizers hope to match last year’s record crop of more than 5,000 pounds. Along with tomatoes, squash, okra, beans, cucumbers and eggplant, the big patch of corn growing at another location should be ready soon.
