Floodwaters closed the intersection of U.S. 58 and 501 in Riverdale on Saturday afternoon.

The Dan River was expected to crest at about 29.9 feet just after midnight Saturday and then fall to below flood stage by Monday afternoon.

That's down from what forecasters initially suggested Thursday. At that time, National Weather Service in Blacksburg reported the Dan River would crest at about 31.4 feet, the same level experienced after Tropical Storm Michael hit Southside Virginia in October 2018.
