An unidentified Halifax resident is being treated at Duke Medical Center with life threatening injuries following a shooting that occurred in Halifax around 3:55 p.m. Tuesday.
Halifax Police Chief Stuart Comer said the Halifax Police Department responded to the shooting at the Oak Lane Apartments and upon arrival encountered an individual who had been shot.
“It appears the subject was alone at the time of the shooting,” said Comer.
The police chief also said he does not suspect foul play, adding the shooting poses no threat to the public.
Since all family members may not have been notified of this incident, Comer declined to release the individual’s name.
Because this is an ongoing investigation, Comer said he could not provide any further information at this time.
The Halifax Police Department has taken the lead in investigating this case, Comer said.
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office also is assisting in the investigation.
