No arrests have been made, and an investigation is continuing into a shooting that occurred on Easley Street in South Boston at 7:49 p.m. Sunday.

According to Randy E. Redd, patrol lieutenant with the South Boston Police Department, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of Easley Street and found a 41-year-old woman on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to her leg.

The scene was secured and rescue personnel transported the woman who subsequently was airlifted to Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, for treatment of her injuries, Redd said.

While on scene, officers obtained a description of the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting, and shortly after the shooting, officers located a vehicle matching the description in the 1800 block of Vaughan Street in South Boston.

According to Redd, a search warrant was obtained for the premises and vehicles located at the residence on Vaughn Street.

A subsequent search yielded several firearms and evidence from the residence and vehicles.

Members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office assisted South Boston Police in the search, Redd said.
