Phase I of the historic courthouse renovations project is continuing in the Town of Halifax with renovation of the county administrative offices for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office well underway.
Where the county maintenance building once stood at the rear of the administrative office building, a new 4,000 square foot sheriff’s office operations building currently is under construction, and site plan and parking improvements will be made.
Construction on Phase I began this spring and is estimated to cost $2.7 million.
Halifax County Supervisors locked in financing at a 3.25 percent interest rate for 20 years with the total payback of Phase I estimated at $3.8 million.
The board entered into an agreement with B & B Consultants in February to provide architectural services, final design and bidding specifications for the renovation of the county administrative offices to be used by the sheriff’s office.
B & B Consultants provided these services for $61,800.
Construction got underway in May and is expected to be complete in December.
This schedule ensures the project does not complete in the dead of winter which could present challenges with low temperatures and inclement weather while asphalt paving operations are underway, according to B & B President Jimmy Epps.
