South Boston police are investigating three incidents within a two-day period earlier this week, including a report of a robbery on Short Street and a report of shots fired in the area of 1600 Irish Street, both during the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Police also are investigating a report of a credit card skimmer device placed on one of the gas pumps at Murphy Express Gas Station on Old Halifax Road, with police receiving that information on July 10.

According to detective C.L. Carswell, police responded to Short Street at approximately 1:50 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a robbery.

A man visiting from out of town reported to police that he was waiting on Short Street for his brother, and that while he waited, he was approached by a black male, approximately six-feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, with a muscular build and wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, according to Carswell.

The visitor told officers that the male pulled out a knife and robbed him of his money and a gold chain.

That incident remains under investigation.

Police are investigating a report of shots fired at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday in the 1600 block of Irish Street in the town of South Boston.

Carswell said that officers responded to an address on Irish Street where there were reports of several shots fired at a home.

Evidence of multiple shots was collected at the scene, with witnesses reporting seeing a small sedan leave the area after the shots were fired.

Carswell reported that no one was injured during the shooting incident and that the motive at this point in the investigation is unclear.

On Wednesday, police received information of a credit card skimmer that was placed on a gas pump at Murphy Express Gas Station on Old Halifax Road.

A citizen complained that several charges were placed on a debit/credit card from locations outside of Virginia, according to Carswell.

The investigation led to the Murphy Express Gas Station, where a credit card skimmer was found on one of the gas pumps at the business.

Police have not been able to identify how long the skimmer had been on the gas pump.
