A 32-year-old South Boston woman faces a charge of following too closely following a Monday afternoon wreck that occurred on Route 659 (River Road) six-tenths of a mile east of Route 860.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper D. N. Clark, Chantel J. Reid was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer on River Road around 5:35 p.m. when her vision became impaired by direct sunlight.

She approached a 1989 Ford 5610 tractor driven by 58-year-old Williard Cardwell of South Boston and attempted to avoid the tractor by maneuvering to the left, but was unsuccessful, according to the trooper’s report.

Nether driver was injured.

Clark estimated damage to the Chevrolet at $3,900 and damage to the tractor at $4,000.

A 29-year-old Nathalie woman faces a charge of following too closely following a Monday morning wreck that occurred on Leda Road six-tenths of a mile north of Chatham Road.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper R. L. Compton, 41-year-old Cheron B. Coleman of Java was traveling on Leda Road at 8:15 a.m. in a 2020 Nissan Sentra when he slowed for a buzzard and was struck in the rear by a 2016 Jeep Latitude driven by Doreena L. Dixon.

Neither driver was injured.

Compton estimated damage to the Nissan at $8,000 and damage to the Jeep at $1,500.
