Southside Virginia localities reported more cases of COVID-19 in the Virginia Department of Health’s data update Thursday morning.
Halifax County has two new cases for a total of 27, Danville added two new cases for a total of 43 and Mecklenburg now has 146 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus.
As of Thursday, there were 26,469 positive cases in Virginia, an increase of 1,038. On top of that there are 1,344 probable cases, which means someone is showing the signs of the respiratory illness and had contact with another person who’s tested positive.
A total of 955 deaths are blamed on COVID-19 in Virginia. Thirteen of those are in Mecklenburg County, an increase of three from earlier this week.
The health department updates online data at about 9 a.m. daily based on preliminary information received by 5 p.m. the previous day. There are known lags in entering data, including deaths, into the system.
