A 34-year-old Roanoke man died at the scene of a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Wednesday around 2 p.m. at the intersection of James D. Hagood Highway and S. Terry’s Bridge Road.

According to investigating Virginia State Trooper L. V. Pambid, Sean Patrick Keoughan was traveling northbound on Terry’s Bridge Road in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer when it ran the stop sign into eastbound lanes of James D. Hagood Highway.

The Chevrolet was then struck by a 2008 Ford Edge that had been traveling eastbound on James D. Hagood Highway. The Chevrolet was struck on the driver’s side, and it overturned in the median and came to a rest in the westbound lanes.

The driver of the Ford, 68-year-old David Wayne Smith of Clover, and his passenger, 22-year-old Christian Tye Smith of Clover, were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries.

The trooper said the driver of the Ford “did not appear” to be wearing his seatbelt nor his passenger.

Pambid noted that the Chevrolet was the “at fault vehicle.”

He also said alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
