9:45 P.M. UPDATE: An 11-year-old boy missing in the Alton community has been located and is safe, authorities report.
“Subject has been safely located,” Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark wrote in a text message to The Gazette-Virginian at about 9:15 p.m.
No further details were immediately available.
ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office as well as others from Virginia and North Carolina are currently searching for an 11-year-old Black male in the Alton community.
According to an alert sent from the county’s alert system and an E-911 director, the child was last seen around 3 a.m. Thursday morning in the 3100 block of Henderson Road.
The first alert was distributed around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
“Please be on the lookout,” the alert notice said.
He is 4 feet 11 inches tall weighing 130 pounds, it stated.
It also said he was wearing grey sweatpants, black T-shirt and a white bandanna.
Assisting in the search for the missing child are a K9 unit with Virginia State Police, members of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and other agencies from North Carolina, the E911 director said.
