A 53-year-old South Boston man faces a charge of failure to yield the right of way following a two-vehicle wreck on Huell Matthews Highway on Tuesday afternoon that left one vehicle overturned on the side of the road and another halfway in a ditch, according to a report from the Virginia State Police.
According to a report from Trooper D. W. Lacks, Allen D. Burton, driving a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo, was merging from a private driveway into a traffic lane on Huell Matthews Highway half a mile south of Newton Farm Road. Janet L. Dunn, 41, of Alton, driving a 2008 Toyota Camry, crossed the centerline in an attempt to miss Burton’s vehicle but ended up striking the vehicle. Burton ran off the road to the right, and his Chevy overturned. Dunn ran off the road to the left, and her Toyota struck a ditch.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries, but neither was transported to a medical facility.
Lacks estimated $4,000 worth of damages to the Chevy and $2,500 worth of damages to the Toyota.
