A wreck on North Main Street in South Boston earlier Thursday afternoon led to a widespread power outage, and Dominion crews are still working to restore power in the area.
A portion of North Main Street remained closed to through traffic Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 1:10 p.m., a vehicle struck at least one Dominion power pole in the vicinity of 2903 N. Main St., resulting in a power outage from the South Boston Post Office at the intersection of Broad Street and North Main all the way to Sinai Elementary School, according to Lt. Mitch Bowen of the South Boston Police Department. The power outage impacted Halifax County High School, as well.
According to a Dominion Energy outage map, 55 customers in the area remained without power as of 4:30 p.m. The estimated time of restoration of power for those customers is between 5 and 8 p.m.
