A male juvenile was airlifted to Duke University Hospital following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred at 1:40 p.m. Saturday on Highway 58 at its intersection with Calvary Road (State Route 119).
According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper G. L. Goad, 43-year-old Elizabeth C. Trawick of Drakes Branch was driving a 1993 Chevrolet 2500 when she disregarded a stop sign on State Route 119 and crossed two eastbound lanes of Highway 58, crossed the median and one westbound lane of Highway 58 before striking a 2009 Chevy Malibu driven by 30-year-old Shekita C. Chandler of Halifax.
Both vehicles ran off the road and down an embankment. Trawick’s Chevrolet 2500 struck a tree, and Chandler’s Chevrolet Malibu overturned once before catching fire.
Trawick and Chandler were injured and transported to the hospital, while Chandler’s 13-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Duke University Hospital.
Charges are pending.
Goad estimated damage to the Chevrolet 2500 at $3,000, and damage to the Malibu was estimated at $9,000.
A 61-year-old South Boston man was charged with driving under the influence following a single-vehicle wreck that occurred at 11:03 p.m. Saturday on State Route 704, one-half mile south of Highway 58 in South Boston.
According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper G. K. Brandes, Danny T. Sizemore was driving a 1984 K20 Chevrolet when he ran off the road to the left and struck a tree.
Sizemore was not hurt.
Brandes estimated damage to the Chevrolet at $1,500.
