Halifax Town Council is seeking additional funding to support the VDOT Smart Scale project for improvements to the turning radius on Route 360 at the Mountain Road and Highway 501, Main Street intersection in the town of Halifax.

Council is slated to discuss a Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission SSED grant application when they meet Tuesday at Halifax Town Hall.

Council will meet in a work session at 6:30 p.m. followed by their regular meeting.

As part of the VDOT Smart Scale project, the turning ratio will increase the intersection with Main Street and Mountain Road between the historic courthouse square and Halifax County War Memorial as part of the Halifax Downtown Revitalization Master Plan.

“The project will include relocating power lines and overhead lines at the Halifax County War Memorial Square,” Councilman Bill Confroy said at a previous meeting.

Also on the agenda for the meeting are the Halifax Police Department reports for June and July presented by Halifax Police Chief Stuart Comer.

The 2019 Famers Market Week Resolution also is on Tuesday’s agenda.

Held Aug. 4 – 10, National Farmers Market Week is a USDA initiative supporting local producers that encourages families to meet and buy from farmers and other vendors at farmers markets across the nation.

National Farmers Market week was celebrated at both South Boston Farmers Market and Halifax Farmers Market on Saturday.

Also, during council’s work session, the members are expected to hear additional reports from the current affairs chairman as well as reports from business development chair Mike Trent and finance chair Bill Covington.
