“Great is the society whose citizens plant trees under whose shade they know they’ll never sit.”

This weekend it’s time once again for the Downtown South Boston Farmers Market’s annual Arbor Day tree giveaway.

Ben Capozzi, market manager, invited everyone to the market this Saturday for a free tree.

Folks are encouraged to plant it this weekend for themselves with family and for generations yet to come, Capozzi said.

The sapling selection will include river birch and American hazelnut among others, and all trees are provided by a 4-H Extension office kids project supported by Old Dominion Electric Cooperative and Huber Engineered Woods.

Additionally, regular farmer vendors will be at the market including Tuck Farms and Virgilina Acres, Broad Shoulders Farm and Paige’s Produce, among others.

Market vendors routinely offer fresh, seasonal produce, locally-raised meat and eggs, vegetable slips and flowers, herbs and crafts.

For additional information or to become a vendor at the market, contact market manager Capozzi at 434-489-7533 or find them on Facebook.
