This fire started in the back of a trash collection truck around 9:15 a.m. Friday at 401 Yates Street in South Boston, with firefighters taking less than 10 minutes to put out the blaze.

Nobody was injured when South Boston firefighters extinguished a Friday morning fire in the storage area of a South Boston public works trash collection vehicle.

The fire started in the back of the trash collection truck around 9:15 a.m. at 401 Yates Street in South Boston, with firefighters taking less than 10 minutes to put out the blaze.

South Boston Fire Chief Steve Phillips said the cause of the fire could not be determined until the trash truck was unloaded.

The extent of the damage to the trash truck was undetermined at press time.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:30 a.m.
