Summer means vacation time and the joy of a good book. Summer means fresh greens in crisp salads. And summer in the South means finger-lickin’ barbecue and sweet iced tea.

All are invited to come celebrate the pre-summer trifecta of National BBQ Month, National Library Month and National Salad Month with the farmer-vendors of the Downtown South Boston Farmers Market this Saturday.

Local famers will have loads of fresh produce for sale, baked goods, flowers, vegetable and herb starts and more.

The Halifax County South Boston Library also will be at the market with a story time for kids to enjoy, and many items for children including books for them to read and even keep, stickers and Cat in the Hat pencils.

Parents can learn about the Library’s Summer Reading Program and register for free library cards.

Staff from the Virginia Cooperative Extension Family Nutrition Program will be on hand demonstrating how to make easy, imaginative salads that everyone will have a chance to sample.

John Dunaway of Smokin’ Butts BBQ will be on site serving up barbecue at its best.

“It’ll be a lip smackin’, page turnin’ good time,” said market manager Ben Capozzi.

For more information, contact the Capozzi at 434-489-7533 or find the market’s Facebook page for the latest news.
