A request to vacate a portion of land near the intersection of Cage Trail and James D. Hagood Highway is on a relatively light agenda for the May work session for South Boston Town Council.

The work session is set at 5:45 p.m. for Tuesday at council chambers on Yancey Street, so as not to conflict with Memorial Day on Monday.

The current issues committee is set to consider two items, the first a request to vacate a portion of the Tuck, Bagwell and Dillard subdivision located near the northeast side of the intersection of James D. Hagood Highway and Cage Trail.

The land was platted in 1953 but never developed.

The current issues committee also is slated to consider a request from the Halifax County Service Authority board to confirm the appointments of Mark Thackston and LaTonya Hamilton to the authority’s board of directors.

The finance committee has three items on its agenda, starting with a request from Mid-Atlantic Broadband for tax-exempt status.

A public hearing is required prior to tax-exempt status being granted.

The finance committee also will consider the 2019-2020 fee and tax list and the monthly financial statement.
