Mrs. Betty Emma “Nuddie” Clay of Alton passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at her residence at the age of 88.

Mrs. Clay was born on July 13, 1932 in Caswell County, North Carolina to the late Mr. Frank Henderson and Mrs. Mary Stewart Henderson. She was married to the late Mr. Russell Lloyd Clay and at an early age joined Macedonia Baptist Church.

Mrs. Clay is survived by three daughters, Jean Dunn, (Roy) and Ann Yancey (Thomas), all of Alton, and Betty Woods (Curtis) of the home; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her stepmother, Clara Henderson, of Blairs; her siblings, Moses Henderson, Bennie Henderson, Josephine Anderson, Dorothy Dabbs, Barbara Henderson, Ronnie Henderson, Daisy Henderson, Louella McCoy, Carolyn Henderson and Elsie Nibblet; and a host of other relatives and friends.   

Graveside services for Mrs. Clay will be on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at noon at Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church cemetery with Pastors Brandon Smith and Herbert M. Pettiford officiating.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, a face mask and social distancing will be required.

Public viewing for family and friends will be today, Jan. 6, from noon until 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
