Bobby “Bobcat” Stanley Hughes of Buffalo Junction passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the age of 93.
He was born on July 19, 1929, in Halifax County to the late John Stanley and Allie Hite Hughes and was married to the late Jane Tillotson Hughes.
Bobby was a 1946 graduate of Virgilina High School. He retired from Burlington Industries after 41 years as a data processor. He was an avid NASCAR fan. After retirement, you could usually find him on the tractor in the hay field or riding his four-wheeler.
Bobby is survived by his stepson, Marshall Carl Tillotson of Buffalo Junction; grandchildren, Kristy Tillotson and Kourtney Ahearn; great-grandchildren, Paisley Ahearn and Kamryn Ahearn; sisters, Joyce Gillespie of Tazewell, Mary Forlines of Jacksonville, Florida, and Betty Chadduck of Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Jean Daniel, Wilford Hughes and Nancy Foxx.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Greg Randall officiating. Burial will follow in Hitesburg Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
