Mrs. Carolyn Aretta Richardson, of German Creek Road, South Boston died Aug. 15 at her residence at the age of 72.

Mrs. Richardson was born in Halifax County on July 7, 1947 to the late Mr. John Deshazo and Ms. Fannie E. Watkins and was married to Mr. James “Cut” Richardson.

She was a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a former longtime employee of Goody’s Department Store.

Mrs. Richardson is survived by her husband, Mr. James “Cut” Richardson of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Katrina Carrington (Larry) of Alton, Ms. Melinda Martin and Mrs. Angela Burns (Kevin), all of South Boston; three sons, Mr. James E. Richardson of Orange, California, Mr. Eric Richardson (Mellvinal) of South Boston, Mr. Derrick Richardson (Lyndsey) of Kernsville, North Carolina; two sisters, Ms. Lottie Clauden (Larry) and Ms. Jerlean Faukner, all of South Boston; one brother, Mr. John Cedric Faulkner (Doris) of Vernon Hill; 16 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; a devoted cousin, Mr. McArthur Paylor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. Waverly Wilkerson. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Aretta Richardson will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney L. Dillard as eulogist.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home of South Boston.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 2000 German Creek Road, South Boston, VA.
