Carrie Willie Goode Delaney of South Boston passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2020. She was born in Halifax County on Jan. 24, 1923 and was 97 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Robert Goode and the late Lottie Goode. She was married to the late William James Delaney Sr.

She was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church. Carrie will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, a great cook, loyal friend, and how much she loved her church and her Lord and Savior.

Carrie Willie Goode Delaney is survived by her children, Shelly Marie Delaney-Dance of Newport News, Jean Hadley (Robert) of Sunrise, Florida, Robert Harold Evans (Candy) of Halifax, Kenneth Tyrone Delaney (Robin) of Queens, New York and William James Delaney (Joyce) of Coconut Creek, Florida; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; one sister, Brady Pearl Owens of Halifax.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor William James Delaney Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the New Vernon Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at Powell Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, social distancing and the wearing of face masks is recommended. For those unable to attend the funeral service, it will be live streamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
