Clyde Douglas Estes of South Boston passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019.
He was born in Halifax County on April 14, 1925 and was 94 years of age.
Mr. Estes was the son of the late David Hailey Estes and the late Kate Irene Wilborn Estes.
He was married to the late Estelle Hope Shelton Estes.
He was a member of Ingram Pentecostal Holiness Church and served in the United States Army during World War II, 9th Division “Old Reliables.”
Survivors include his sons, William Kenneth Estes and wife Donna and Mark Stephen Estes and wife Barbara, all of South Boston; four grandchildren, Melissa Hazelwood (Clint), Stephanie Clark (Christopher), Cameron Estes Shelton (Jamie) and Beth Estes; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
His siblings, Elvis Tremaine Estes and Anna Wilborn Hargis, also preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Sexton officiating.
Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.
The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at 906 Berry Hill Church Road, South Boston.
