Mr. Curtis Ray Puryear of Virgilina passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the age of 76.
He was born in Halifax County on Sept. 3, 1942 the son of the late John Edward Puryear and the late Grace Gravett Puryear. Curtis was married to Brenda Whitt Milam Puryear.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Puryear was a graduate of Halifax County High School and received an associate degree from Smithdeal-Massey Business College. He worked with the Bank of Virginia, was the owner of an aquarium manufacturing and pet supply store, and he was employed by Southern States.
Curtis enjoyed fishing, racing and shooting pool.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Whitt Milam Puryear; son Will Puryear of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; daughter Beth Ward and husband Justin of Richmond; sister Joy Lovelace and husband Pete of Cluster Springs; brother Jerry Puryear of South Boston; grandchildren Chase Rutherford, Ryland Ward and Aiden Ward; and nephew and nieces Mickey Puryear, Martha Shotwell and Spud Puryear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bruce Puryear, a nephew, Rex Puryear, and a niece, Vicky Lynn Puryear.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shayne Estes officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1100 Whitt Farm Trail in Virgilina.
