Dakota Wayne Yancey of South Boston passed away Monday, March 16, 2020. He was born in Halifax County on July 7, 2000 and was 19 years of age. He was the son of Wendel Scott Yancey and Melissa Ann Thomas.
He attended South Boston Church of God. Dakota loved hunting, fishing, chillaxin and his family. His motto was “Family over everything” and would give you the shirt off his back. Dakota’s favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 (NRSV) “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
Dakota Wayne Yancey is survived by his mother and step-father, Melissa Ann Thomas and Billy Thomas of South Boston; his father, Wendel Scott Yancey of Virgilina; three sisters, Katelyn Ann Horton (Eric) of South Boston, Savannah Brook Yancey of South Boston and Chyanne Marie Yancey of South Boston; maternal grandparents, Larry and Kathy Mitchell of Pleasanton, Texas and Jerry and Linda Yancey of Virgilina; great grandmothers, Faye Snead of Bristol and Maude Lacks of Virgilina; nieces and nephews, Summer, Christopher and Johnathon Horton; special sister Allyson Wilkins; special brothers Chris Doss and Jamie Wilkins; aunt and uncles Larry, Tanya and Charles; and cousins Renae Yancey, Amanda Yancey, Austin Yancey and Hannah Yancey.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, March 22, 2020, at 3 p.m. at Aarons Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel Thomas officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, 1409 Hodges Street, South Boston.
