Douglas Fowler Spencer, 53, died in Keller, Texas, on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. He was born in South Boston on April 19, 1967 to Ernest Douglas and Mary (Long) Spencer.

Following graduation from Halifax County Senior High School, he earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Virginia Tech. Doug designed sites for landscape firms in Virginia and North Carolina, including O’Brien Atkins Associates and Commercial Site Design, before moving to Keller, Texas, to be closer to family.

Friends, family and colleagues delighted in his sense of humor and his passion for animals.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doug, and is survived by his mother, Mary; three siblings, Elizabeth Spencer Spragins, Lynne Marie Spencer and Dana Spencer Blanks; as well as several cousins, an aunt and an uncle.

Due to the pandemic, a memorial service has not yet been scheduled.
