Evangelist Regina Johnson Wilkerson of Edmunds Street, South Boston died on Monday, Sept. 7, at Vibra Hospital in Richmond at the age of 88.

Evangelist Wilkerson was born in Halifax County on April 15, 1932, to the late Haywood Johnson, Sr. and Nannie Carver Johnson. She was married to the late William C. Wilkerson.

Evangelist Johnson is survived by three daughters, Nannette Martin (James), Paula Wilkerson (Clay), both of Albany, New York and Arlecia-Renee Jones (Amos) of South Boston; one son, Michael Wilkerson (Cassandra) of South Boston; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; a cousin she raised as a son, William Edmonds (Robyn) of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Haywood Johnson Jr. (Mary) of Montauk, New York; one aunt, Katie Johnson Duncan of South Boston; one brother-in-law, William Walker; two daughters- in-law, Anne and Theresa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, William Russell Jr., Reginald, Sherman and Leonard; one sister, Charlotte Walker; and one brother, Irving Johnson.

Graveside service for Evangelist Regina Johnson Wilkerson will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15th at noon with services at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Suffragan Bishop Bernard Wilkins as eulogist.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, a face mask and social distancing will be required.

Public viewing will be Monday, Sept. 14 from noon until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
