Mr. Frederick Hawkins “Freddie” Seamster passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020. He was born on Dec. 21, 1947 to the late John Wesley Seamster Sr. and the late Ruth Hawkins Seamster.

Before retirement, Freddie worked with Gupton Sheet Metal for over 50 years as a roofer and sheet metal worker. He was a past member of the South Boston Volunteer Fire Company. He was known as the “chair man,” having replaced chair bottoms such as caning, rush and splint, for many people in Halifax County and surrounding areas. He brought back the art of basketry in the 80s, having made many beautiful baskets out of white oak splints and teaching classes to many people. He was very creative and could make anything.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Candee S. Pulliam and husband, Nelson and Andrew Charles “Andy” Seamster; grandchildren Austin Nicholas Pulliam and Erin Elizabeth Pulliam; brother David Seamster of Nathalie; and a sister, Jo Carroll Godwin of Anderson, South Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. W. Seamster Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Candee and Nelson Pulliam, 1018 Donna Court, Halifax.
