Mr. Garland Mitchell Conner of Halifax passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at his home. He was born in Halifax County on Oct. 8, 1942 and was 76 years old.

He was the son of the late James Garland Conner and Nannie Francisco Conner and was married to Ida Hazelwood Conner who survives.

He was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church, was a U.S. Army veteran, and he was retired from Burlington Industries.

He also was a member of American Legion Post 8 and the Halifax County Beekeepers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Ida H. Conner, of Halifax; two daughters, Tammy C. Clay and husband Donald of Clover and Teresa H. Nichols and husband Mark of Clover; one son, Brian Conner, and wife Karen of Danville; grandchildren Heather Clay (Will Pritchard), John Nichols, Thomas Nichols (Heather Lankford), Brianne Conner and Kolby Puryear; great-grandchildren Laci, Alyssa, Rosemary, Donald, Waylon and Saylor;

sisters Helen Bates (Robert), Judy Anderson (Jackie) and Brenda Conner; sister-in-law Nancy Conner; and nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by brothers Jimmy Conner and Gurney Conner and a sister, Teresa Conner.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Sean McGuire and the Rev. Tony Sisk officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home.
