Mrs. Geneva Fitzgerald Kirby of Lewis Ferrell Road, South Boston died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at her residence at the age of 95.
Mrs. Kirby was born in Java on Sept. 12, 1924 to the late Mr. Thomas Fitzgerald and Mrs. Queen Womack Fitzgerald. She was married to the late Mr. Charlie Kirby and was a member of White Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Kirby is survived by three daughters, Ms. Blonzetta Kirby of the home, Mrs. Shirley Kirby Loftin (Jesse) of Fort Washington, Maryland, and Mrs. Velma Kirby Talley (Howard) of South Boston; one granddaughter, Ms. Erika Kirby; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Gilchrist Kirby of Capitol Heights, Maryland; two sisters, Ms. Catherine Wolley and Ms. Minnie Carelock, both of Maryland; three brothers, Mr. James Fitzgerald and Mr. Tony Fitzgerald, both of Washington, D.C. and Mr. Melvin Fitzgerald of Danville; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Rayvon Kirby.
Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Fitzgerald Kirby will be held Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at 1 p.m. at White Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Hayward Jennings, officiating and the Rev. Maurice Ferrell, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing was held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 4231 Lewis Ferrell Road, South Boston.
