Mr. George David Collins Sr. of Bronx, New York, formerly of Halifax County, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, in New York at the age of 78.

Mr. Collins was born in Halifax County on June 14, 1941 to the late Mr. Samuel Collins and Mrs. Mary Epperson Collins. He was married to the late Mrs. Lola Pleasant Collins and was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Collins is survived by his children, Dietra L. Collins of Bronx, George D. Collins Jr. (Rochelle) of Garrison, New York, and Sean A. Collins of Charleston, West Virginia; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Pleasant of New York; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; one goddaughter, Kourtnry Whitehead; one adopted daughter, Naomi Kuno; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including Burrous Palmer and Thomas Sydnor.

In addition to his parents, his siblings, Marie Washington, Sally Eanes, Alice Carrington, Dorothy Lacks, Mattie Morton, Ruth Pleasant, Helena Chandler, James, Will, John and Ben, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Collins will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Bowman eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Public viewing will be today, Jan. 10, 2020, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home and the family will receive friends at the service on Saturday.
