Gladys Smith Clark of Scottsburg passed away March 18, 2021. She was born in Halifax County on Aug. 8, 1931 and was 89 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Cephas Carrington Smith and the late Virginia Susan Conner Smith. She was married to the late Richard Alexander Clark.
She was a member of Scottsburg United Methodist Church and attended Revelation Baptist Church.
Gladys was owner and operator of Clark’s Self Service. She loved flowers, gardening, but most of all, she loved her children, grandchild and great-grandchild.
Gladys is survived by two daughters, Patricia Franklin of Scottsburg and Deborah Franklin of Gretna; one grandson, Derek Franklin, and wife Tiffany of Gretna; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Franklin of Gretna; and siblings Louise Clark of Richmond, Josephine Billingslea of Virgilina, Inez Conner of South Boston, Oliver Smith and Christine of Halifax.

Three bothers, Herman Smith, Clarence Smith and Bernard Smith, also preceded Gladys in death.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Kenny Dunn officiating. In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of face masks and practice social distancing. The funeral service will be livestreamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
The family will receive friends at her home, 1158 MacDonald Rd., Scottsburg, VA
