Mrs. Gloria Phyliss Davidson Cooke, widow of the Rev. Richard P. Cooke of South Boston, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at the age of 82.

She was born in Marie, West Virginia on Dec. 27, 1936 the daughter of the late James Davidson and the late Sarah Epperly Davidson.

The Rev. and Mrs. Cooke were united in marriage on Feb. 7, 1959 in Newport News.

A minister’s wife she supported him wholly in his ministry. A true caregiver since childhood, she raised her sister, daughter, and grandchildren, as well as provided care for her husband and countless others.

Mrs. Cooke was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the W.M.U. 

Mrs. Cooke is survived by her daughter, Gloria Cooke Crute (Leonard); grandson Jeffrey “Adam” Pittman; granddaughter Rachel Marie Pittman; great-grandchild Virginia Ann Sells; and Adam’s father, Dolan Jeffrey Pittman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Emory Davidson, and sisters Virginia Avery and Betty Summerford.

Funeral services will be held on at 2 p.m. Friday at Aarons Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
