Mrs. Gracie Wilkerson Brooks of Edmunds Street, South Boston died Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 92.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Halifax County on March 8, 1927 to the late Mr. Sydney Wilkerson and Mrs. Emma Faulkner Wilkerson.

She was married to the late Mr. John Brooks and was a member of Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church until she joined Abiding Branch Church. 

Mrs. Brooks is survived by five children, Ms. Thelma C. Dixon, Mrs. Linda B. Brown (Robert), Ms. Gloria B. Moore, Mr. Jerry Brooks (Pam) and Mr. Henry A. Brooks (Emma); 21 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends including the devoted Mrs. Dorothy Mitchell and Mrs. Regina Wilkerson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Brandon and Mrs. Diane Owen, three grandchildren, Deborah, Cynthia and William Dixon, and 15 siblings.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brooks will be Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Stewart officiating and the Rev. Wallace Pierce as eulogist.

Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 821 Edmunds Street, South Boston.
