Mrs. Irene Medley Hankins of Cherry Hill Trail, South Boston died Saturday, Jan. 18 at Berry Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 90.
Mrs. Hankins was born in Halifax County on Feb. 12, 1929 to the late Mr. Albert Medley and Mrs. Ludelia Wood Medley.
She was married to the late Mr. Robert Morton Hankins and was a member of Williams Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Hankins is survived by one daughter, Ms. Georgia Hankins of South Boston; one son, Mr. Carl F. Hankins (Cassandra) of South Boston; five grandchildren, Candice Corrente, Nakiya Hankins, David A. Hankins, Malaysia Hankins and Tyree Baker; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Mr. Albert Medley of Washington D.C. and Mr. Willie F. Medley (Ella Mae) of South Boston; one son-in-law, Mr. Sherman S. Terry of South Boston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Vera Terry and Mrs. Nancy Womack; three sisters, Mrs. Ophelia Cardwell, Mrs. Mary Hawkins and Mrs. Alberta Edmondson; and one brother, Mr. James Medley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Medley Hankins will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at noon at Williams Temple C.M.E Church with Rev. Andre’ Williamson officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1109 Cherry Hill Trail, South Boston, VA.
