Mr. James Chesley ‘Jerry” Edmondson of Sweeney Trail, Halifax died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Sentara Woodview at the age of 80.
Mr. Edmondson was born in Halifax County on Feb. 3, 1939 to the late Mr. Chesley Edmondson and Mrs. Mabel Harris Edmondson and was married to Mrs. Nannie Easley Edmondson.
He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and Mt. Sinai Masonic Lodge # 203. Mr. Edmondson was a retired employee of the former Rochester Button Manufacturing Company.
Mr. Edmondson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Edmondson of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Felicia Arthur (Marcus), Mrs. Mary Oprecht (Ernest) and Ms. Shawn Edmondson all of Connecticut; five sons, Mr. Mark Chandler (Lona) of Scottsburg, Mr. Michael Edmondson (Yvette), Mr. James Edmondson and Mr. Ricky Edmondson, all of Connecticut, and Mr. Stewart Edmondson of Maryland; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Mae Brown (Louis) of Halifax; one brother, Mr. Richard Edmondson of Halifax; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Michael Easley; one sister, Mrs. Gracie Jennings; and one brother, Mr. Henry Edmondson.
A funeral service for Mr. James Chesley ‘Jerry” Edmondson will be held Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie N. Yancey, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing for family and friends was Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, from noon until 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1211 Sweeney Trail, Halifax.
