TSGT, Retired James L. (Sonny) Easley Sr. answered the call home on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. He was born to the late Arthur and Mary Emma Easley Sr. on March 9, 1934 in Halifax County.
He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Banister Hill Baptist Church. He was educated in the Halifax County School System. Sonny served 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1974 from Langley Air Force Base as an airplane electrician. He then worked at Phillip Morris Corporation in Richmond, and Anheuser-Busch in Williamsburg, where he retired after 17 years as a maintenance electrician.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Emma Easley Sr.; two brothers, Leville (Skippy) and Robert (Bobby) Easley; a son, Thomas L. Bailey Sr.; and a sister-in-law, Reba Easley.
He was married to the late Beatrice (Top) Easley for 43 years and to this union Carol Renee and James Easley Jr. were born.
Sonny leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Carol Renee Mills (Rev. Morgan Mills Sr.); son James L. Easley Jr. (Sandy Easley); brother Arthur Easley Jr.; daughter-in-law Yvonne Bailey; sisters-in-law Vivian and Nancy Easley; grandchildren Anika Easley, Morgan Mills II, Marissa Mills, James Easley III (Trey), Courtney Easley, Thomas Bailey Jr., Diane Bailey, Danielle Bailey and Dominique Bailey; great-grandchildren Amarje Moody, Breon Barrett, Al’yana Matthews, Ja’Mya Hill, India Morrison and Tevon Batlle Jr.; special cousins Shirley (Ann) Nichols and Donnell (Mousey) Jones; special friends Pinkey Wynder and Richard Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved playing golf and having breakfast with his buddies at McDonalds (coffee break) every morning.
Services were held Saturday, Sep. 4, 2021, at Cornerstone Worship Center.
