Jimmy Ray Powell of South Boston died on Jan. 12, 2022, at the age of 77.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Linda; their children, Jimmy (Kim), Barry (Shannon) and Tiffany and their grandchildren, Alexandra, Vanessa and Brayden; his surviving sisters are Judy Glass, Faye Trent and Betty Greer. He is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne.

Ray was an active member of Grace Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving as a deacon and a member of the adult mission class. He was a veteran of the armed services and a lover of classic cars, especially Chevrolet pickup trucks. He was most recognized in his 1970 Chevrolet truck, affectionately referred to as “Ole Blue,” that he still owns to this day.

May Ray rest in peace in heaven with his favorite uncle, John, who recently went to be with the Lord also.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church before the service beginning at 1 p.m.
