John Wayne Irby of Clover passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, the 62nd wedding anniversary of his marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Conner Irby. He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 24, 1939 and was 81 years of age. He was the son of the late James Clarence Irby and the late Elizabeth Walker Irby.
He was an active member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church. John Wayne was a founding member of Mt. Laurel Ruritan Club, former member of Clover Lions Club, active community member and was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and bowler. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
John Wayne Irby is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Irby; his children, Robin Yates and husband Mark and Jeffrey Irby and wife Annette; four grandchildren, Kathleen Sibley and husband Stephen, Ryan Yates (Mary Popek), Josh Irby (Emily Maxwell) and Kassidy Irby; two great-grandchildren, James and Julia Sibley; one brother, Kenneth Irby; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Irby and Janice Irby.
He was preceded in death by siblings Carroll Irby, Lynwood Irby, Ray Irby and Frances Roller; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Irby and Patsy Irby; and one brother-in-law, Everett Roller.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Pizzeck and the Rev. David Barker officiating.
In keeping with CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19, we recommend the wearing of face masks and social distancing. The funeral service will be live-streamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
