Mrs. Julia Ann West Nichols passed away Friday, May 29 at the age of 89 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born in Halifax County, on March 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Edward West and the late Fannie Mae Hudson West and was married to the late Thomas M. Nichols Jr. She was mother to the late Karen Nichols Young.

Julia Ann was the secretary at Clover Elementary School for many years. She had a passion for sewing, decorating, cooking, antiquing and spending time with her family. She was a dedicated member of Clover Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and librarian. She was active on many volunteer committees, including flowers committee at the church and a long-standing board member and treasurer for Clover Cemetery.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Laura Beth Young and Matthew Thomas Young and his wife, Jessica; her great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Noah and Julia Young; sister-in-law, Bernice Fussell; and son-in-law, Mike Young.  Also surviving is her special friend, Cecil Nichols, two nephews and one niece. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Katherine Carr and brother-in-law, Kenneth Fussell.

Funeral services for Julia Ann will be held Wednesday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at Clover Baptist Church in Clover. Burial will follow in the Clover Cemetery.

Due to the current world circumstances, the family will not be receiving visitors at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home nor the family homes. The church service is open to family members. Would-be attendees are encouraged to make a responsible decision as capacity is limited and first come, first serve. All attendees are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. People are encouraged to attend the public graveside service, which will not have a limited capacity. The graveside service will begin after the church service, around 10:45 a.m.
