Lacy Roosevelt Whitt of South Boston passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019.
He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 6, 1932 and was 86 years of age. He was the son of the late Jack Buntin Whitt and the late Lillian Spencer Whitt, and he was married to the late Joyce Jerlene Cranford Whitt.
He was a member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church.
He served in the United States Army Airborne during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 8.
He retired from J. P. Stevens after 40 years of service.
Mr. Whitt is survived by his daughter, Becky W. Hutcherson, and husband Ricky of South Boston; three grandchildren, Shawn Short of South Boston, Eric Whitt of Texas and Meredith Whitt of Wyoming; three great-grandchildren, Patrick Simmons, Brooklyn Short and Cameron Short; two sisters, Imogene Robertson of South Boston and Lena Bish of Harrisonburg.
His sons, Michael Whitt and Stanley Whitt, and siblings Owen Whitt, Marcellus Whitt and Ann W. Terry also preceded Mr. Whitt in death.
A graveside service with military rites will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Cherry Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Neilson officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Ricky and Becky Hutcherson, 110 Watlington Drive, South Boston.
