Luther Erket Talley, 93, of the High Plains community, born on Aug. 22, 1927, in Woodsdale, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the Duke University Medical Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Nettie Coleman Talley.

He was the son of the late Royal B. and Odel S. Talley. Mr. Talley was a farmer most of his life and worked at the Eaton Corporation until he retired in 1992. He loved his family, friends and community. He was an avid hunter, gardener and enjoyed cutting wood.

He is survived by his nine children, Jean T. Maddy, and fiancé Michael Smith of Hopewell, Frank Talley and wife Barbara M. Talley of Roxboro, North Carolina, Joyce T. Schutte and husband Earl of Cluster Springs, Harry Talley of South Boston, Dorothy T. Yarborough and husband Gerald of Sanford, North Carolina, Norman Talley and wife Brenda R. Talley of Virgilina, Ruth T. Compton of their home in Roxboro, Faye T. Martin and husband Grady of Roxboro, and Kaye T. Hansen and husband Jim of Raleigh, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; step brother Royster Epps and wife Esther of Hopewell; sisters Lythia Slaughter and husband Jerry of Charlotte, North Carolina and Mamie Grubb of Charlotte; and sister-in-law Betty K. Talley of Burlington, North Carolina.

His brothers, James, Oliver, Daniel, Carlton and Edgar, also preceded him in death.

Services will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Calvary Baptist Church in Roxboro. A walkthrough visitation will be held in the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.

Officiating the service will be Pastor William Wheeler of Calvary Baptist Church, his nephew, the Rev. Charles Martin and his son, the Rev. Norman Talley. Music will be provided by Theresa M. Coleman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2663 High Plains Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573.
