Mabel Hughes Ragsdale of Halifax passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021. She was born in Halifax County on Oct. 4, 1937 and was 83 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Barry Ben Hughes and the late Ethel Richardson Hughes.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mabel Hughes Ragsdale is survived by her children, Carol Ann R. Beadles (Tommy) of Halifax and Glenwood Ragsdale Jr. (Beverly) of Halifax; grandchildren Ellen Powell (Sean), Emily Beadles (Ethan), Erin Beadles, Scarlett R. Powell (Chris), Anna Ragsdale (Dylan) and Jackson Ragsdale (Chloe); four great grandchildren; siblings Elizabeth Whitt of Concord, Eddie Hughes (Frances) of Brookneal, Kate Fisher (Richard) of Brookneal, Ben Hughes (Linda) of South Boston and Jimmy Hughes (Sue) of Turbeville.

She was preceded in death by Jean Stanley; and her husband, Sherman; brother-in-law Thomas Whitt; and former husband Glen Ragsdale.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Rev. Jerry Stanfield officiating.

The family will receive friends at 1067 Swain Rd., Halifax.
