Mark Edward Murphy, 59, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, in the Hospice House in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

Born in Halifax County on May 30, 1960, he attended local schools until the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Georgia Tech and Southern Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, and began a career as an Electrical Engineer.

Mark enjoyed playing the guitar, playing tennis, riding his motorcycle, water and snow skiing, traveling, loved dogs, especially cocker spaniels, and the fitness center, but most of all, he enjoyed being with his son whether coaching soccer and baseball or watching him play.

He is survived by a son, Michael E. Murphy, of Sharpsburg, Georgia; a brother, Donald G. Murphy, of Covington, Georgia; his parents, Edward Murphy (Carolyn) of Virgilina and June Crenshaw Hartley (Joe) of Apex, North Carolina; two half-brothers, Jody Hartley of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Dana Hartley (Lara) of Apex, North Carolina; two nephews, Logan and Dylan Hartley of Apex, North Carolina; three aunts, Merle Crenshaw Smith and Vivian Crenshaw Garber, both of Halifax, and Laura Murphy Conner of Vernon Hill; and one uncle, Bill Murphy, (Kathleen) of South Boston.

A memorial service will be held at a later time.
