Mary “Tookie” Seay Cheek of South Boston passed away Jan. 23, 2020.
She was born in Christiansburg on Sept. 17, 1940 and was 79 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Alfred Seay and the late Agnes Newton Seay. She was married to the late Walter Franklin Cheek Sr.
She was of the Baptist faith. Tookie was an avid dancer and loved music, especially bluegrass, and was a sparkle in the lives of many.
Mrs. Cheek is survived by her daughter, Cathy C. Carter, and husband Tim of South Boston; her son, Frankie Cheek, and wife Kim of Halifax; two grandchildren, Jennifer C. Reaves, and husband Lewis of Turbeville and Trey Cheek and wife Jennifer of Madison Heights; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Leyla and Timber Reaves; special friends Debby Francis, James Clay, David Conner, John and Karin Theo and their children, and her dance community and family.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home chapel with John Theo officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home.
